Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

SortLake is a free waste sorting guide for Victorian council residents. We built it to be as private as possible - no accounts, no tracking, no ads. This policy explains exactly what we do collect and why.

What we collect

Search queries

This data is anonymous. There is no name, email or account linked to it. It is used to improve the waste database and understand which items residents are searching for.

Push notification token

If you enable bin night reminders, we store a device token linked to your council. This is used only to send you bin collection reminders. It is not linked to your identity. Tokens are automatically removed after 6 months of inactivity.

Community ideas form

If you submit an idea or suggestion via the Community tab, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. Phone number is optional. This information is used only to review your feedback and respond if needed.

IP address (hashed)

A one-way hash (SHA-256) of your IP address is temporarily stored for bot and abuse protection. The raw IP address is never stored. This data is automatically deleted after 48 hours.
